Corsica 2010

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Hi all;
This year a few of the head from the club are heading over to Corsica to paddle in warm weather in april on some of the most beautiful rivers in europe.
Although we will be hitting some of the steeper stuff, all are welcome to tag along and paddle other runs or with us or others if they are up to it.
This is not a club trip but just to let folk know that it is possible to head over chill out with lots of boaters from all over europe and get some cruising boatin done or just hang out drink wine and eat sanglier (wild boar).
Total cost driving and campin about €400 all in, ferrys,fuel,food,accom,beer the lot.
Topic up soon on forum.

Update;

1/06/2009

Long overdue but we had a blast over there and there were a lot of easy rivers but we had fun hitting the harder stuff which was to be fair ,hard.

Each river was different and had their own style, but overall the top end of the scale thye involved a lot of scouting so they took much more time. But next year we will know em and fly down like the locals.

The campsite was sweet and cheap and so was the food for the most part. And the weather was good but nights were freezing literally.

But next year a road trip to see more rivers is on the cards in the mean time enjoy the pics.

Colligan Gorge Games

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

Last weekend some club members headed down to Waterford to compete in the Colligan Gorge Games. Water levels were nice and high!!! Steve stayed at the accommodation right beside the river Friday night the rest of us stayed in Waterford/Tramore with Brian travelling from Wicklow Saturday morning trying to set a new record for the journey time.

The day started with the men’s expert category as you can see below there was some tough competition!! Brian and Steve battling it out unfortunately none of our men’s expert made it through to the finals.

Mens Expert - Brian & Steve

Men’s sport were up next and we can see John and Martin battle it out…. will Martin ever catch up with John???? Unfortunately none of our club made it through.

Mens Sport - John & Martin

Up next was myself in the women’s sport category after an exhausting race down the gorge I managed to be in the lead for the final drop, however a nasty underwater gremlin pulled me over and popped my deck forcing me to swim to the bell to come in second securing me a place in the final.

Womens Sport - Clara

The team event was next and there were three tasks to be completed someone had to roll, catch an eddie at the top of the last drop and do a paddle spin on the last drop see below for photos of Brian and Paul mid spin.

All in all a great event and were all looking forward to next year!!

Parked in Glen Etive

On the 23rd of October the club set off on its inaugaral trip abroad, a long weekend in the Scottish boating mecca of Fort William.

The trip up there took a long 7 hours, probably down to our search for;

Maidens

and Irish whiskey, Jim getting a few look at  the checkout when mentioning it to be far batter than that scottish stuff.

Martin having a drink

All in all it was a very enjoyable weekend of paddling with runs on the Etive, Allt A Chaorainn, Fassfern, Roy, Orchy and of coursre evenings spent packed into the sauna beers in hand.

More photos can be found on the club flickr page and on facebook.

Rumour has it a trip over to wales may be on the horizon.
